Continuing the move toward rejuvenating our pond there are 2 main projects planned for 2021.
At the end of May the old, wooden fence will be replaced, like for like. It is anticipated that the work will be completed within a week.
When our ducks and moorhens have finished providing us with the photo opportunities of their chicks our local kayak specialist, Felicity, has very kindly agreed to paint the duck houses using outdoor paint donated to the Village Society.
Chalk, Cherries and Chairs, a Chiltern’s Landscape Partnership, have worked with The Parish Council and HGVS and produced a plan for potentially improving the ecology around and in the pond. The outcome will be a natural filtration of road runoff, improved oxygenation of the pond water and enhanced wildlife habitat. Chiltern Rangers will support volunteers in a 2 day project, using natural supplies from around the pond itself and also supplying other materials, indigenous plants and specialist labour.
The main funding will come from LMPC, with HGVS volunteers carrying out the project. We hope to be able to involve the senior school and youth club in the future.
A mechanical filtration system for the pond is on the Buckinghamshire Capital Drainage programme, and has been for 3 years. Unfortunately our pond is not a priority, areas which flood, quite rightly, take precedence. However, LMPC are in contact with the team and reminding them of how our pond takes all our rainwater and stops the crossroads from flooding.
